I am one of the Reception teachers at Webheath. I am very passionate about early education. It is uplifting to be part of a curriculum which is inspired by capturing the children’s interests and promoting a love of learning. I believe in Reception we are the foundation to engaging your children into enjoying and taking control of their learning. Whilst at school I enjoy getting creative in the art area and spending time in the mud kitchen trying out new recipes served by the children. I want your children’s Reception year at Webheath to be happy and full of wonderful memories of make new friends, getting creative, being curious, enjoying lots of stories, learning new skills, solving problems and so much more. It is a privilege to watch the children at Webheath achieve in so many areas of their learning. I am very fortunate to work with a team of staff that will go over and beyond to provide the children with the best education.

I love being outdoors in nature, being creative and spending time with my friends and family.

I have been at Webheath for three years, but have been teaching for many more years than I can remember, in both small and large settings. I really enjoy learning in the outdoors and going down to the forest. I enjoy inspiring children to read following my own love of reading. I love animals and can often be found visiting animals at the weekend. My favourite animal is a penguin. Reception is such a great year, and I look forward to meeting each new cohort and learning in fun and exciting ways.

Phonics
We follow the Sound!Start Phonics Scheme. We have two sessions each day. The first is Learn a Letter, where the children learn a new phoneme (sound) and grapheme (the symbols that represent the letters and groups of letters). The second session has a reading or writing focus and allows us to practice and apply our skills.
As the children learn new phonemes they will bring home a ‘We have been learning to…’ booklet on a Friday. This will enable your child to share their learning with you.
Reading books
As your child becomes more confident with their phonic knowledge and fluency, a book will be uploaded on to Collins Ebook each Friday. This book is to celebrate your child’s reading, as they will have read it several times in school that week.
Everyday:
- Book bags only to be bought into school. We do not have room to store large school bags.
- Water bottle needs to be brought to school each day.
- All children need to have their own set of waterproofs and wellies that remain in school.
Maths
We will ensure children can use a variety of manipulatives to explore the value of number and ensure a thorough understanding. We follow a Mastery approach and want to ensure fluency. Whilst we explore number, we will use tens frames and grouping as a per-curser to multiplication.
