INTENT
At Webheath Primary School our Art curriculum is designed to enable children to showcase their creativity and develop their artistic skills. We encourage children to explore the work of great artists whilst developing their own unique style. We aim to use exploration and imagination to progress and revisit key skills building on prior knowledge to challenge and empower pupils.
IMPLENTATION
Our pupils have the opportunity to create art, master key skills and take inspiration form great artists.
Art is delivered by explicitly teaching specific skills and also through opportunities for purposeful cross curricular links. Examples of cross curricular art include EYFS producing work for Diwali and Chinese New Year and KS1 and KS2 linking to their ‘Mantle’ topics such as, Year 2 creating artwork form around the world and Year 5 producing pieces from outer space.
IMPACT
Our pupils seem to enjoy art and expressing themselves in a creative way. They seize the opportunity to learn new skills with positivity and often excitement as they can visually evaluate their own progression.
Through the explicit teaching of the Art skills, both the teachers and the pupils assess their learning continuously and aim to improve upon prior skills and knowledge. Teachers are able to make informed judgements about the depth of pupil’s learning and the progress they have made over time. In turn artistic skills can be applied across the curriculum and can help with understanding across a number of different subjects.
