Intent
At Webheath we want children to be aware of how technology can support our daily lives. Technology is everywhere and embracing it will be pivotal in our children's lives. We strive for our pupils to 'be prepared for a world that doesn't yet exist, involving technologies that have not yet been invented, and that present technical and ethical challenges of which we are not aware.' Computer Science: A curriculum for Schools' 2012. We want to model and educate our children to chose to use technology postively, confidently and safely. Our curriculum, including digital literacy, computer science and information technology, is woven through the whole school to reflect this.
We recognise that technology can help pupils share their work and collaborate more effectively. It allows creativity and can support inclusivity in the classroom. Our computing curriculum, though knowledge based, provides many opportunities for pupils to embed their skills creatively across the whole curriculum.
Our journey at Webheath is on-going, we encourage our staff to try and embed computing across the whole curriculum to make learning creative and accessible. We strive for an environment where each child has access to a device that makes ICT available at all times. We want our pupils to be fluent with a wide range of tools to express their understanding. Our aim is, at the end of UKS2, pupils have the independence and confidence to chose the best tool to fulfill a task or challenge set.
Implementation
Our Computing teaching and learning follows the themes within the Chris Quigley 'Essentials' Curriculum - Connect, Code, Communicate and Collect. Although this is broken down into key milestones which are taught during discrete computing lessons across the school, we believe that the majority of these skills can be practised, embedded and applied across the whole curriculum. We will use our computing knowledge to showcase our learning in other areas of the curriculum. Across the school computing will be taught weekly, some lessons will include the teaching of a skill, some an app or programme and some will focus on e-safety and digital well-being. With this in mind, we will link our learning closely to the PSHE curriculum.
Impact
We encourage the children to enjoy their work across the curriculum and will provide them with the skills to make informed choices as to how technology can positively impact on their learning, development and well-being.
We will help pupils to find the right balance with technology to support their learning and also ensure a healthy lifestyle. We will encourage them to be safe and responsbile on-line and understand the importance of protecting their digital footprint now and in the future.
We will support the children to build online portfolios to showcase their achievements using OneDrive, Seesaw and Tapestry in the Early Years. This ensures the children share, publish and celebrate their successes and allows us to assess their knowledge and digital skills against our curriculum objectives.
